Join the Lilac Literacy Team

I founded Lilac Literacy to help students who struggle with reading build the strong foundation they need to become confident readers. As Lilac Literacy grows, my goal remains the same, that every student receives individualized, evidence-based instruction in a supportive, encouraging environment.

To continue serving more students, I am looking for passionate educators to join the Lilac Literacy team as independent contractor tutors. This flexible opportunity is ideal for qualified teachers who enjoy working one-on-one with students while maintaining the independence to manage their own schedule. Most students are located in the Salem and Turner area, and contractors have the option of using the Lilac Literacy office in Turner or providing in person services from their own  location.

If you're passionate about literacy instruction and want to make a meaningful difference in the lives of struggling readers, I'd love to hear from you!

I’m looking for a tutor who:

  • Holds a current Oregon teaching license.

  • Has experience teaching or tutoring elementary and/or middle school students.

  • Has a strong understanding of the Science of Reading and evidence-based literacy practices.

  • Has experience providing targeted literacy intervention to struggling readers in a one-on-one or small-group setting.

  • Enjoys working independently while collaborating with Lilac Literacy to support student success.

  • Is ready to begin accepting students in September 2026.

Preferred qualifications

  • Reading endorsement and/or specialized training in literacy intervention.

  • Experience administering and interpreting curriculum-based reading assessments.

  • Experience working with students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where are tutoring sessions held?

Most of Lilac Literacy's students are located in the Salem/Turner area. As an independent contractor, you have flexibility in where you provide services. Contractors may tutor in their own approved location or use Lilac Literacy's office in Turner at no cost.

How many hours are available?

Contractors can expect approximately 4–10 tutoring hours per week, depending on student enrollment and scheduling. Tutors can choose to accept more or less hours depending on their schedule.

What are the typical hours?

Tutoring sessions are scheduled based on student demand and contractor availability. Opportunities may be available on weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings, and schedules may grow or change as enrollment changes. Contractors have the flexibility to accept students whose schedules align with their availability.

What is the pay?

Compensation ranges from $30–$40 per tutoring session, based on qualifications, experience, and specialized training.

Is curriculum provided?

No. As an independent contractor, you are responsible for selecting and planning your own instructional materials and lessons. Tutors have the professional autonomy to develop an individualized plan of instruction based on each student's assessment data, ensuring that instruction is evidence-based and aligned with the student's goals. Lilac Literacy values instructional approaches grounded in the Science of Reading and expects tutors to use evidence-based literacy practices to support student growth.

Do you have online tutoring opportunties?

At this time, most students prefer in person sessions and tutors will be expected to provide services from a location that works for both the tutor and family.
